The King of Gambling

Born in 1921 in the powerful Hong Kong-based Hotung Family , Ho was the ninth of thirteen children. He was born with a silver spoon, as his father was a successful trader. However, in 1934, a stock market crash led to his father becoming bankrupt. Overnight, Ho, then 13 years old, saw his family go from riches to rags. In 1942, the family fled Hong Kong for Macau to escape the Japanese invasion during World War II. In a state of indigence, Ho made a vow to his saddened mother, “I will devote myself to studies and make all the way up to be head and shoulders above others.
